Pawtuxet Village has undergone many changes lately. The building known for over fifty years as Cameron's Pharmacy has recently undergone a restoration process which introduced three new businesses into the community. Originally built in 1890 on the south corner of Broad, near Bridge St., it was a pharmacy owned by William E. Watson, also known as "Doc Watson's".
Later, in the early 1950's the building took all of the block from Aborn Street to Bridge Street and became a landmark known as Cameron's Pharmacy. I remember taking trips down to the village as a little girl around 1960 to have a Lime Rickey at the soda fountain here.
(Mr. Cameron had it moved to his store from the Liggett's Drug in Edgewood, when that closed.)
Today the building occupies the entire block, from 2200 to 2206 Broad Street. It has been completely renovated and restored and is now home to three thriving businesses.
On the north end, at 2200 Broad Street is the Cork and Brew. A wonderful liquor store featuring an enormous array of wines and beers. In the center, at 2204 Broad Street, is Sweet Indulgence, a cupcake cafe with extensive selections of sweets, candies, ice creams, coffees and more. And on the southerly corner at 2206 Broad Street is Heidi Hope Photography. Heidi Hope is New England's premier natural-light photography studio.
